Has anyone done this job?

I'm doing it soon.

Just bought it's gasket. Added 15/10/21. This is a gasket for the DET. Not for DE.

I’ll be interested to hear how it goes and if it makes a difference. It looks like the IACV is in a bit of a tight spot to access. Mine was cleaned by the dealer some 15 years and 130,000km ago. It was their solution to “bogging”... yeah didn’t fix it!

Hi Shred,

There is a 'how-to-do' IACV clean in the Technical section for donating members, like you and me.

At the same time, I'll be removing the power fluid canister, as I'd do a power steering fluid flush at the same time.

I'm waiting for my gasket to arrive from the UK.

This is interesting:

Back here again, to do this job. Purchased the correct gasket from Japan. Will be doing the clean early Nov. I’ll keep ya all posted.

Also purchased a new AIR REGULATOR VALVE. The unit sits under the intake manifold.

Update. The Red Jett deserves a brand new IACV. So bought it this:

I’ll be replacing the Red Jetts IVAC and ARV (air regulator valve) next week. I will post detail steps, with pics in the technical section for those interested. But you are gonna have to donate $10 to see it. Be back soon.

Finally started:

What a job!

It took me three hours to remove two bolts from the IACV unit. Had to remove the power steering tank and oil filter.

Noticed that the 'long' bolt was missing, so only three bolts securing the IACV.

I'm done for the day, will attack again tomorrow.

Keep ya posted.

Yesterday: Took me four hours to remove the last bolt.

I was exhausted.

No hoist, lying on my back under the Red Jett. Trying to get to it from the top. Finally from the bottom.
I want go into the gruesome details, but it was soul destroying.

Today: Started to put the new IACV unit back and after 30 minutes I gave up. Surrendered.

I'm now giving it to my Master Mechanic, Josh at BLACK LABEL.
He once rebuilt a SR20. Having it taken there on a truck. RACQ will pick up the tab for that.

I'm going to get John to also replace the fuel pressure regulator and the air regulator valve (ARV).

As I mentioned the long bolt in the IACV was missing, so the connecter was not secured to the bracket secured by the long bolt. Must have fell out, who knows when?

Took the old unit down to NUTS, BOLTS & SCREWS NERANG and secured four new bolts. Cost? $3

This is the last time I'm doing any jobs like this. Josh can do them all.

OK. After 2 aborted mechanic bookings (blame the floods) and one month since last post, Red Jett is going to have its surgery next Wednesday.

Keep ya posted.

The Red Jett is back after Black Label Automotive magic touch.

These IACV valves are a nasty piece of work to remove and refit.

Josh, had to remove oil filter and the brake master cylinder to do it.

I do not recommend anyone to do this as a DIY.

So fitted new IACV, and A/C idle control valve, and fuel pressure regulator.

Result? Idle much better and smoother.

Josh recommended a full tune up as the last one I did on the Red Jett was 2008.

So taking it to these dudes and going to get a new chip set to replace the old ChipTorque unit. Then dyno tune and see the results.

Chip is a NIStune Type 3 board.

Today changed the Oxygen Sensor with this:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271441664754

Had to re-solder in the Air/Ratio gauge cable.

All is well.

The old one looked an excellent colour. Lasted 70,000 klicks. Last replaced in 2002.
