Question Neutral position switch 32006 - What does it actually do?

So I have this AU 8/92 N14SSS that is leaking gear oil out through what has been identified as a "Neutral position switch" . Since the OEM part is in the range of $70, severely thinking bolt is a good option, but before I do that, can anyone tell me it's intended purpose?

I have found info on it's application in Navaras but still vague, just if it's malfunctioning it can result in power loss in 4th.

It can mess with the idle too and how the car controls the idle valve when at speed and in gear or not in gear. I would be replacing it personally.

Oh, right.... Thank's Cozzm0. This particular car does go through bouts of hunting idle and just quitting when it's clutch in stop at an intersection. Might be all related... Cheers

Stalling pulling up to lights with clutch in is usually more related to the idle control valves.

Should update this... I replaced that switch and it seems to have calmed down a lot with it's random.
