Question Does Anyone APRA - Pulsar Challenge?

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone take part in the Pulsar series APRA? I was thinking of maybe competing. Would love to get your thoughts. Seems expensive for the Cage, Shocks, Tyres. My cars are simpler Autocross classification. Was looking to step up to state comp. Any feedback or experiences. Cheers

Not many here do. Think they have their own forum/Facebook page.
If pulsar challenge is expensive for you then circuit racing in general is probably too expensive. Can still have a lot of fun at club days and hillclimbs if you're after tarmac

I raced last year - had to sit this year out due to house renovations and work commitments - I will be racing again next year

I built my car for a little over $5k
I didn't actually spend $5k as I had things like a race seat and harness lying around - but I have included them in the cost of the car

$5k will get you into Karts - just
So from that point of view APRA racing is good value

And then there is the safety gear - cost me $3k
    I didn't have a race suit - bought a half decent 3 layer suit
HANS is becoming mandatory across all circuit racing,
currently mandatory at international, national, and state level events
Probably mandatory at club level next year
That means a new helmet and HANS device
Then there was boots, gloves, flameproof underwear, etc

There are a few other costs like the mandatory "Race Receiver" at Wakefield and Winton - $150
These are great - give you warning of incidents or oil on the track

Sometimes there are two day events - with a practice day on the Friday - these weekends are expensive
~$200 in fuel - there and back
    ~$450 for accommodation, plus meals
$300 weekend race entry (extra $50 if you want a garage)
    $100 for the practice day
So it's really easy to spend over $1k to compete at one event
(and that's if nothing gets damaged)

Most of us change the engine and gearbox oil every event, especially after a 1 or 2 hour enduro, heat kills oil
You should expect things like brake pads, brake rotors, clutch and tyres to wear out and need replacement

The APRA cages, shocks and tyres are at the bottom end of the motorsport cost range

The Hyundai series are allowed to spend $2k on shocks - APRA YellowSpeed shocks are under $1k

While the shocks and tyres are control items - there is no "APRA cage", it's a free item provided it meets the safety regulations
Many of the cars have home made cages, many are using low cost bolt in cages (~$1,250), a few have national level cages which probably cost a fair bit of coin

You want any shocks or YellowSpeed shocks for APRA?

MX5 Mainia in Sydney are the YellowSPeed vendor, not sure if you can purchase just the rears

Ask in the APRA classifieds on Facebook
There were a few N14's crashed last year - one team switched over to an N15, so they may have some shocks for sale
