As I need to buy a replacement remote for my '99 pulsar, was thinking an after market alarm/immobilizer might be a better solution. Any recommendations on a system and someone who installs them. In Melbourne eastern suburbs for the install. Thanks.

Talk to Dom at https://www.autobarn.com.au/stores/preston , just too the north, might be able to help.

A bit of thread necromancy, I know.
I returned to my car tonight to find the glove box open and the dashboard and ignition lock hacked up with a screwdriver... but nothing missing. Two week old $300 dash cam and my parking meter money still there. Guess the scumbags were interrupted. Security guys at work say it's not an isolated incident.
I like the idea of a proximity based immobiliser, so I don't need to push any buttons or do anything other than put the key in the lock. Alternatively, I could go "old school" and just fit a hidden kill switch in series with the fuel pump.
What do other people fit to their 1990s Pulsars?
Dynamco P205 will do what you want. The key is fitting it well. Pick up immobilisers away from the barrel and make it blend in with the factory stuff.
PNP HID, the AIDS of auto electrics.
I finally did get am immobaliser fitted to my car about 2 months ago. Got steve's car alarms to fit it. They do it on site. Car auto immobaliser after 30 seconds, which is a bit short really, and the remote works the central locking too. Fitted at work site. Was just under 300. As to how effective it is, I don't really know. But if you don't deactivate it, you can turn the key in the ignition, lights come on but doesn't crank over at all.
