    spark plugs covered in oil.

hey guys was just changing my spark plugs, and they are covered in wet oil, my dad says possibly a rocker cover leak, however I just bought the car a week ago and he has a receipt from a mechanic stating the rocker cover gasket was done for the roadworthy.

    any ideas ?

    cheers

    1st up,
Was the oil ontop of the spark plugs or on the part that's in the engine?

    2nd
Sometimes people buy the rocker cover gasket but not the tube seal gaskets (the 4 individual round seals that go around each spark plug hole) as they may apear fine,

But people replace the rocker cover gasket and re use the seals and next thing you know they don't seal again the second time around and people end up doing the job twice

The second plug was covered in oil on top and all over the plug. The third and fourth plugs had wet oil all over the electrode part only.

Then based on the Info you have given me I can only assume that the 2nd plug has oil on it due to the tube seal leaking, and that the 3rd and 4th plug are getting oil on them due to unwanted oil getting into the combustion chamber, either getting past the rings or valves

A leak-down test would tell you where it's coming from

Yeah, I might just bring the car to my old mans and do a rebuild on the motor anyway I think you can get a kit for around 3 or 4 hundred. Hes been a mechanic for 25 years, im mech-illiterate lol. Just find it odd for so much oil on the bottom of these plugs, but she idols fine and doesn't blow any smoke
