I purchased this edition of Motor in 1992. Bought my Red Jett in 1992. Still have both.
Enjoy the read.
This is what ya need:
CozzmO, you are the man!
How about a few pics of the lathe and the master at work.
The RHS K&N filter is probably not legit, but lets ERG gases out a little (vent to air). I clean that filter every 20,000.
Note I have removed all the ERG stuff on the intake manifold.
The little filter is in fact a cheap fuel filter, that is a final clean after going through the oil catch can and back into the intake manifold - not seen in bottom left of pic, located behind the...
OK, job done to perfection.
Rear sway bar now doing it's job.
Phew! Vast improvement with turn-in, and the rest.
I have read that some BMW's sway bar brackets snap off, and these dudes got...
Take a look at two pics of the Red Jett.
Cold Air Intake at bottom left (passengers side) of front spoiler. Used end of a funnel to increase opening to 120 mm, for ram effect.
80 mm flex pipe...
Oh well, over time there is metal fatigue. As you start to improve areas.
Started to get a clunk/bump/knock from right rear end.
Had a geezer, and low and behold, the side sway bracket, had...
you need four (4) of the buggers.
Agreed… Good luck to all those that are searching.
Found these on eBay. from the USA
Might just do the trick. They look almost identical. Not cheap! It will cost you circa AU$100 for a set of four including postage.
It is all in this thread Dude.
If you buy used injectors, get them ultrasonically cleaned before fitment.
It will be worth it.
For the Red Jett I got one of those mobile vans to clean them. Saw it happen. Before and after....
OK, verdict is now in. The BlueDevil product has fixed the tranny leak. No more there.
This stuff was like water and clear. I can recommend it. Can only be sourced from the US....
It was a weight reduction thing I did. Spoke to Colin Chapman about it...
Well, tranny oil changed today. As this leak has been, I think, causing my linkage to tighten after a hot uphill run.
However, I got about three litres out and in good colour. Minute filings...
Ah-hem… I was a DIY guy. Now gettin' long in the tooth and sick of skinned knuckles and bruised arms. I wish I had a hoist. That would be lotto for me.
No, I'm gently rockin' the Jett towards...
Oh what have you done to me Cozzm0?
OK, you put me to shame. The leak has got worse over the last four years. Huh, I already knew about it.
OK, who ever get's the Red Jett in five years...
It is the join. Confirmed.
As I do only 2,000 klicks a year now, (with 135,000 on the odo after 25 years) not sure if I wanna spend to professionally fix it at this time, even though I like it...
Finally found the culprit that causes a stiff gear linkage after a hot run.
The forkin’ transmission is leaking. Changed the tranny oil two years ago and I think there ain’t much left. Nice old...
How could you suggest that for a beautiful SR20? ;)
