Hi guys,

Does anyone know of an alternator that will fit our n14/n15 that might be an upgrade over the stock ones?

The stock one cannot keep up with the headlights and thermo fans being on at the same time.

Thanks.

P.s they are very power hungry fans. Rated at 30a each!

You can get ones that push hundreds of amps for car audio applications. I have P12 one on my car which is 90 amps. but it doesn't supply that at idle. What battery do you have? I can't imagine the need to have fans that draw 30 amps each ?

i do not know what the fans are off. I found them at a wrecker and customised them to fit into a pulsar fan shroud. They have a 30a rating sticker on the back.

im running a standard replacement battery from century. NS40ZLSX

Either the past 2 alternators i have bought from the wreckers have been bad or the stock alternator cannot keep up.

I dont have a large stereo so i dont need anything above the 90-100amp.

Maybe cheaper to fit some factory OEM fans back onto the car.

I take it there isnt any easy options to fit a larger alternator?

Fit one designed for big car audio systems like i said is going to be the best way to make a large improvement in alternator power.

N14 is 70A, N15 is 80A, i have a Primera one in my car which is 90A, there are probably larger ones on cars like maximas and stuff.

I'd just replace the fans personally. WAY easier than trying to upgrade the alternator.

I still have the standard fans. I will throw them on this weekend and see how i go.

Thanks

Ok so

On sat i reinstalled the standard fans. All was good. Went for a drive that night and the issue is still there!

Headlights on, and fans on cause the voltage to drop to 12.5v.

On Sunday i did a voltage drop test and cleaned all my ground points. 0.02v loss on the ground side and 0.10v on the positive.

Swapped out battery from my daily and still no change.

Must be the alternator.

Sounds like the regulator is weak.

Any idea on where i can get an overhaul hit for it?

Never thought about doing that myself, maybe an auto sparky shop ? but might be easier to get non genuine new or exchange reco perhaps ? Not sure what's involved in doing a recondition.
