Once again another thread... sorry guys! It appears that I have a leak from the rear main seal on my N15, so will need to remove the gearbox, clutch etc. in order to check that out. Are there any specialty tools I need to do this; anything that is Nissan (certain size sockets, tools) specific perhaps?

Cheers, Jarryd.

You do need a big socket to undo the drive shaft nuts
If you don't mind collecting tools get two, one for the front and one for the rear
Get the black impact sockets, deep reach, 30mm & 32mm

Look at the gearbox oil drain and filler plugs - make sure you have tools to undo them

You will need a range of sockets and extension bars

If you pull the cross member out you will need something to hold the engine up

Should not need any other special tools
But you need a plan for pulling the box off the engine - it's heavy and hard to reach
What ever you do, don't let the box hang on the gearbox input shaft

While you are there check the clutch and flywheel - if there is any doubt sort them out while you're there

Thanks for the reply Martin. I've done a bit more research and found that I'll need those 30 and 32mm deep sockets. I have extension bars etc so that shouldn't be too much of a drama. That was my main concern regarding the gearbox, as I'm likely going to be doing it on the ground. I was thinking of a trolley jack to keep it supported as I pull it away from the engine and down. Cheers

A trolley jack will work - you may want to remove the suspension from the left front to provide more/clear access
(I used a small transmission jack)

I use an empty cardboard box under the gearbox, pull it off the motor and drop it onto the empty box, works like a charm every time.

Yeah, I could do that in my 20's but now that I'm over 50 I just don't have the raw strength
I work in IT spending 10 hours a day bashing at keyboard - this does not make me strong like a mechanic
