1999 pulsar sedan, whilst I think of it.
So today whilst changing the thermostat, when I hopped in the car to see if the heater was getting warm, fan doesn't work on speeds 1 to 3. Only the 4th max setting. But, if I click the air con button in, then click the fan to the first position, the air con and thermo fans fire up. Just no blow, unless turned to max.
I was thinking the switch, but it activates the air con on low, (but doesn't blow), so where do I look next? Really have no idea. Thanks.

Okay. Done some googling and appears it's the blower motor resistor. So if anyone knows where it it, then thanks heaps.

I have done this,

- underneath you glove box (the hinges) there are some 'L' shaped pins that hold the glove box in place.

- the resistor is inside the WHITE container where the fan is located (on my N15 SSS)

Just waded through my photobucket account and found this old pic too, hope it helps.

On a side note has your cabin filter been changed recently ?

Easy to do too and while you are at it vacuum out the vent/ fan system for clean air :)

does every n15 have one of these (cabin filter)? i thought they were an aftermarket oem option only? i know simon has found some other alternates to the oem one.

I can't find one on ebay for my model, only a GTi, so you may be right. But my ebay search skills aren't great either.

Cabin Filters were never fitted to Australian models. You have to do the mod as described in the tech section to add it, otherwise there's just no filter there at all.

All done. Wish the thermostat was as easy to do as this resister was. I'll post some pics here that I took whilst doing it, for anyone else who may stumble across this same problem.
Part cost me about $35 from eBay. The resistor (?) part is smaller but the frame all fit in perfectly. New part on the right.

These are the little L clip/pins that you pry/wriggle out from under the glove box.

How it looks when it's out.

Here's a pic of the part you'll be unplugging and replacing. It's actually at about a 45 degree angle when looking at it, but I had the camera on an angle and it looks like it's pointing straight out at the seat, which it isn't.

Unclip the plug. I used a small flat blade screwdriver to push the little holder thing/tab in, so the plug will release.
2 philips head screws holding the resistor in place. Unscrew them, slide/pull part out, put new one in, after noting which way it goes back in, little plastic lug to guide it in properly. Screws back in, plug wires back in, glove box back in and closed and that lines up where the L clips go, and all done.
Thanks to the members who replied and helped out. Muchly appreciated. I would have had no idea how/what to fix if it wasn't for you lot. :)

Great, sure you don't want another resistor that comes with a whole car ;)

Ha Ha. Nah. I'm actually more or less happy with this one.
