I replaced my SSS’s stock coil for a Crane LX-91 coil. That with Top Gun leads and Iridium sparkies, resulted in yet another few points of power improvement.

However, if you decide to do, then be prepared to replace your dizzy cap and rotor every 20,000 klicks. Due to the high current being loaded from the coil on the stock parts.

Example of Crane Coil & Top Gun leads:

i run this coil on my N14 have for many years now.

Running ICE leads now before that was top gun. Although i never noticed a increased rotor/cap wear problem though.

Take a look inside your dizzy cap and see if it's on it's way out.

Cheers...

Its new and only been on there for under 1000 kays.

The old one which has done at least 20,000 kays lives on in another car along with the rotor button.

Although i will pull it off on the weekend and have a look see.

After 20,000 mine, the inside dizzy cap contacts are scorched/pitted more so than with stock coil.

Keep me posted, as IMO, those CRANE coils are spitfires.

Also keep an eye on your leads connecting to the dizzy cap, as the extra oomph from the Crane may push the coil lead out of its dizzy socket a bit. One one occassion at 7,600 rpm, the coil lead blew out of the dizzy cap. Only once this has happened, but now after high rpm runs I always give the dizzy leads a check and push.

Yeah i had the top gun leads from the coil at the dizzy itself come off a few times yeah.

Although not with the new ice leads.

ive also run the Crane coil for a while.

if your cap is looking a bit oxidised, just give the contacts a quick rub with sandpaper to clean it up a bit. might get a bit of extra life out of it.

Have you got a write up on how to do this to a S2 n15 SSS

It is a self install.

Need to locate the coil a bit away from the engine.
See pic:

Look for the red lead with the long black cap, (lower right of pic) which attaches to the Crane Coil.

After the last 20,000 on the dizzy cap with Crane feedin' it, I saw that one back contact part of the dizzy had broken off! And it was a NISSAN part.
That Crane is lighting up my 98RON to the max.
