Hey guys so you all might know my old project JAPSSS's , This was built for both street and drags however it rarely gets used for either of these.

So with my brother we have gone in and picked up a 93 N14 SSS

We are currently sorting parts and ideas

ill try and keep a log of the build , problems and solution to aid in others

Should be fun for you, good luck with it all!

Man that yellowspeed coilovers warning with the sway bar... Scary stuff

Martin

Indeed, several people have discovered this and shared their learnings

This is the culprit in question
That device is a clamp, you tight it against the shock thread
I felt very uncomfortable installing it and then removed it when hearing about the experience of others

Fairly sure my sway bar mount had lock rings either side of the sway bar mount collar thingo.

Martin
20-10-2015, 06:36 PM
Yeah - the hex drive to clamp that collar in position are on the other side - the clamp is not great and can still rotate during usage

Leesss
21-10-2015, 04:50 PM
yeah I don't run that on my challenge car

21-10-2015, 06:16 PM
how else do u mount the rear sway bar then?

Leroy Peterson
21-10-2015, 06:49 PM
isnt factory front mounted on the lower control arm?
whiteline rear should come with a bolt kit?

Leesss
22-10-2015, 04:50 PM
it does come with a bolt kit, you have to make a plate to mount it to the lower control arms in the rear

Factory mounted to a bracket that comes off the rear shocks.

Small amount of work on the car on the weekend , Removed the roof lining to reveal the sunroof. All so test fitted the wheels

with a faster car, or get to the track before us?

Martin

Are you going to remove the sunroof and close the hole?
There is a bit of weight there and it's up high :-(

No and no , Ive checked with the guys in the pulsar challange and my cage builder there should be no issues keeping it.

im going to pull it out and weigh it however im sure ill have no problems meeting the minimum , that this stage my brother and i dont have the time to for a replacement repair like this , however in the future it will be on the cards

It not just the weight, it's the high location of the weight and it's impact on handling and tyres
I don't know how heavy the N14 sunroof is but all the BMW E30 racers remove theirs
But yeah - time pressures would put this lower down the list of priorities

It's not that easy to get down to 1100kg
Me and my car weight in at 1170kg (~25% fuel)
Interior is completely stripped bare, including removal of the heater, aircon, etc
(Hmmm, still have not removed the front electric windows, there's a few kg there)

Yer i know the weight is high but i can tell you i highly doubt this sunroof is going to cause me to finsh last or first for that matter so yer back of the list for now , im sure if i get a few weekends free we will break out the MIG and smash it out.

As for weight ive taken the power windows out already and and ill be cutting the intrusion bars out of the doors soon also will keep a log of all the weights and keep you all posted

I just realized, that car looks like the one Ryan had

I'm interested to know the weight of the intrusion bars - I have not cut them out yet

Who is ryan , This car came from my cousin

He's a Pulsar Challenge guy - must be a coincidence (having the same grey body and undercoat doors)

The best type of weight to add, is the weight you can CHOOSE where it is to be added. Rip EVERYTHING out and ballast the car in the right place to improve dynamics.

most of it it, i like having functional front windows ( the rears are bolted up) heater i was lazy, all the aircon from in the cabin has been removed. had to add 25kg

Martin

All the Pulsar entrants were weighted yesterday, around 1040kg for the car was common, plus driver to reach or exceed 1100kg

Yer when i first saw Lee do that with his weights i made a mental note haha

Sunroof - It's a heavy muther, 13.25kgs ( almost 30 lbs). I know someone who cut the complete roof off of a gtir and replaced it with a non-sunroof version.

Martin

Yes, that's what I suspected, and it's up high contributing to lean which is not good for McPherson struct suspension

I certainly agree with getting the car ready to compete and sorting this out later
